Introduction to Standards of Care

Fairview Drive Pet Hospital is committed to the best possible Veterinary care for your companion animals. We constantly strive to improve our methods and procedures, using the latest techniques, medicines and surgical methods to diagnose, treat and of course provide early detection of health conditions affecting your pet.

Our Mission Statement at the hospital is "To provide medical expertise and friendly advice in an atmosphere of Godly compassion and to enable you to make wise health-care choices for your family pet". From this we have created our Standards of Care that determine how and in what context we treat your pet and disclose our medical findings to our clients.

Let's break down the Mission Statement into its relevant parts to see how this affects our clients. Our practice standards provide a framework under which we can assess and treat each pet within the broader contexts of Trust, Client Service and Teamwork.

Trust

Our clients deserve Honesty, Integrity and Faithfulness. We will not mislead our clients by hiding or exaggerating the facts, we will always do the right thing under the circumstances and we will always do or perform what we say we will do. Our clients expect nothing less from us.

Client Service

Clients and their pets are the essential element of any vet practice. Most vets offer similar types of treatments and advice. We strive to make our practice a special place for the treatment of your pets through higher levels of client service. Clients should expect to be treated with Kindness, Patience and Gentleness. Despite the pressures of daily living, each client should be treated with the respect they deserve - and then a little bit more. Our staff must always remember that there are other events going on in peoples' lives and the care of their pets is uttermost in our thoughts.

Teamwork

Our staff are highly qualified and trained in Veterinary care. Each plays a role in the health of your pet not just the Veterinarians themselves. Without the harmonious teamwork of our staff, your visits would be longer, the post-surgical care would be more difficult and most of all we probably couldn't't look after the overall volume of clients that we have. We strive for Efficiency by having each staff member performing the duties for which they are trained and equipped. We perform our work with Optimism - looking for the best possible outcome in each medical situation. We strive for Innovation - looking for better ways to provide our services without compromise. And lastly, we work with Patience - accepting each team member as invaluable no matter how personal issues may intervene.

But how does all this matter to our clients and their pets? We look to constantly improve our practice methods as well. Some of you will recall that Dr. Mulder was recently away at conference as part of our constant desire to upgrade our techniques.

Medical & Disease Standards

Based on the latest medical advancements, these standards will ensure that all of our patients will receive the appropriate medical tests, preventive measures and treatments for all diseases identified.

As new technology and procedures become available, we will ensure that the highest possible standard of care is presented to our clients.

Wellness Standards

We will attempt to identify individual risk factors that can be addressed to prevent disease and discomfort, or decrease life expectancy or quality. In the process we will try not to overburden our clients and their care for their pets. Our job is to recommend changes that could affect outcomes, not to demand unnecessary medical treatments, and to provide these in a way that is consistent with our goals for customer service.

Our Role in Patient Care

We are to ensure consistent quality of care to our client's pets. We will assess health relative to optimal health standards for the type, age and sex of each pet. We will communicate each pet's needs to their owners - explaining and educating about the medical concerns and treatments required. We will formulate a health care plan for each need identified in priority sequence and seek the client's approval for each step of the plan. We will honour our client's wishes with respect to the steps within the plan. We will provide excellence in the provision of health treatments for all pets.

Our Client's Role

We expect our clients to understand and evaluate treatment procedures for their pets. Each should determine within the context of the age, wellness and expected outcomes, based on the medical advice we provide, making the appropriate decisions to ensure the best possible life and wellness expectations for your pets. Your attention to prompt medical treatment where required, routine medical examinations, keeping vaccinations up to date and annual wellness tests will certainly go a long way to keeping your pets around for a long healthy lifetime of companionship.
