1. Gently lift the ear flap straight up and hold it with one hand.
2. Ear Cleaning Solution can be warmed in a hot water bath to get it to body temperature. Always test temperature on your wrist before using. Cold solutions will be shocking to your pet and hot solutions will damage sensitive tissues. Dribble the warmed cleaning solution into the ear canal until the ear is filled (solution should begin to run out of the ear).
3. Slide you finger in a straight line from the corner of the eye back toward the ear until your finger slides off the cheek bone. With a pulsing motion massage the ear for 5 minutes. A squishing sound tells you that the solution has gone into the horizontal canal.
4. Release the ear and let your dog shake his head. Since the ear solution contains a wax solvent, debris will be softened or dissolved so it can be shaken out.
5. Dab (do not rub!) the outer part of the ear canal and the inside of the ear flap with a cotton ball or tissue. Do not use swabs to do this as they tend to push debris back into the vertical ear canal. The presence of brown colouration or debris means that the cleaner is working, but that the cleaning needs to be repeated as prescribed by the veterinarian.
6. If other ear medication has been prescribed, apply it as directed 20 minutes after cleaning.
