Taking Care of your Pet's Bandage

The most important thing for you to do is to keep your pet's bandage dry and clean.

Please call the hospital to have the dressing replaced for any of the following reasons. If the bandage

* Becomes Wet
* Gets Dirty
* Comes Off
* Shifts

Bandages that are on limbs can be kept clean and dry very easily when they have to go outside. Simply take a plastic bag and put the leg into the bag to cover the material. Use a string or an elastic to hold it in place. Be sure to remove the bag and tie when the pet comes back inside. Never leave the tie in place for longer than 20 minutes.

Should your pet decide to lick or chew at the bandage the following can be done:

A. Get a bitter tasting spray from us to apply to the dressing.
B. Get an elizabethan collar (plastic cone) to leave on the pet when unsupervised.

Our veterinarians will let you know when the bandage should be removed and if it will need to be reapplied. Please make an appointment with the receptionist for this.
